    Hello silverfox47
    Welcome to TWS

I believe this is an ongoing issue with XP and has been for a while, Is there a particular update or is it a couple that keep updating?

It appears that the catalogue that manages what updates you have installed is corrupt. There are a number of resolutions that you can try,
in order to resolve this problem.

    Solution 1
    1. Open Computer Management from within Administrative Tools in Control Panel.

    2. Expand the Services and Applications branch.

    3. In the list of Services, find Automatic updates.

    4. Right click on it and choose Restart. If this option isn't
available, choose Stop and then once the service has been stopped,
right click again and choose Start.

    Solution 2
    1. Stop the Automatic Updates service from within Services in Computer Management.

    2. Browse to Program Files, Windows Update.
Note: If you don't see the Windows Update folder, then you need to turn on Show hidden files and folders. To do this click on Tools, Folder options. Then choose the
    View
tab. Scroll down until you find the section Hidden Files and Folders and change the radio button to Show hidden files and folders.

    3. Delete everything in that folder except for the folder called V4.

    4. Double click on the V4 folder.

    5. Delete everything in that folder except for iuhist.xml (you may not see the xml extension if you don't view extensions normally).

    6. Close the Explorer windows.

    7. Restart the Automatic Updates service.

    Solution 3
    1. Stop the Automatic Updates Service from within Services in Computer Management.

    2. Browse to the windows directory within C:, then system32 then catroot2 (not CATROOT)

    3. Delete the contents of that directory, including the subdirectories.

    4. Reboot the machine.

Please follow the solutions in that order to find a fix that works for your PC

If you have any issues or these solutions do not work please post back Smile

    Regards

    Craig

    Hello shakirmahmood

    Welcome to TWS Smile

SP3 is a large bundled .exe package of all the updates collected since the release of SP2 and is roughly about 316mb's in size.

Before you install the service pack make sure you prepare your system by creating backup's and saving files to an external hard drive if you have one.If you have deleted these updates then it is wise to go through the process of installing the full bundle again. This will update existing updates and replace deleted and lost updates.

    1. Log onto XP as the administrator

    2. Log off any programs that may be running

    3. Create a backup/restore point of your system

    4. Download SP3, XP

    5. Once the download is complete, double click the ".exe" file and follow the on screen instructions

This installation of the service pack will take roughly 10 - 20 minutes to complete and may restart several times however it will replace all lost and new update files.

    Regards

    Craig
