    Heya

    Welcome to TWS Smile

    Try the following solution

    1. Select "Start", Type "Regedit" and press enter

    2. Once the "Regedit" window appears navigate to the following string being careful to follow the correct one.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    3. One the right hand side you should see one of the following strings

    Upperfilter
    Lowerfilter

    4. Delete what ever filter is there whether its upper or lower filter

    5. Restart the PC and try to insert the CD/DVD to see if its being recognize.

Basically the above solution deletes a string which becomes either wrong in value, has a broken link or partially updated, upon reboot the string should be re-created with a new string with the same name.

Let me know how it comes along Massive Grin

    Regards

    Craig

Hmmmm are you the computer admin?

Also that might be part of the issue, each Vista machine needs a filter on it however if both are missing then we can try to re-install the drivers as they might have been uninstalled during an update or removal of a product

    1. Select "Start", Type "Device Manager" and press enter

    2. Once the "Device Manager" window has loaded locate the drive, Should be called "DVD/CD-ROM Drives", Another option should drop down under neath it with the name of the CD drive, Select this one

    3. "Right Click" and select "Properties"

    4. You should now see the "Device Properties", Select the "Driver" tab

    5. Near the bottom of this tab you should see an option to "Update Driver", Select this option,

A new set of updates for this driver should be installed and once the installation is complete you should be prompted to restart the PC

If it states that the driver is up to date then try to "Roll Back" if that option is available

Restart the PC once you have performed a main update or rollback so the effects are seen

    Regards

The updates can effect it, Did you only have the issues today? Or was there issues earlier?

If there was issues only after these updates then we can roll back to a previous point, normally after the last update or before these updates,

The updates themselves aren't always needed if you have a good security system and unless the system updates are marked as critical

Try this first then a restore as a last resort

    1. Navigate to:

    C:\Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

    2. Select "Uninstall A Program"

    3. On the top left hand side select "View Installed Updates"

You should now be able to see all installed updates, change the view to sort by dates they were installed and see if you can find the ones from today

    4. If you have found them select one and select the "Uninstall" option which appears at the top of the screen

    5. After removing these updates reboot your PC and try it now

This is a HUUUUGE issue right now for a lot of user's, Microsoft don't have an answer that works for everyone and most of the time are busy claiming its a malware that has not yet been established,
So basically we keep our fingers crossed for you

    This is a last Option:

    1. Select "Start", Type "Restore" and select "Backup & restore Center"

    2. Once the "Backup & restore Center" widow opens select "Repair Windows Using System Restore" which should be located on the top left hand side of the window

    3. Select a restore point say you updated yesterday or the day before,

Then let the system restore the files and settings, NO content should be deleted during this process

    4. After the restore is done the PC will reboot and then finish the rest of the restore upon reaching the desktop

Check to see if the issue has been resolved

    Regards
