    Seems to be the Same XP Update

    Post by MrMario on Sat Mar 14, 2009 12:24 am

    When ever I start my computer my Windows Online Care tells me that I am missing Updates. But it seems to be the same Update for Windows XP (KB967715)Even when I restart my computer.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Hmmmm the re-offending Update has come back i see, Good thing about Vista, I never need to see that update appear on my PC lmao

    Well basically when the update was originally downloading, At some point in the process it would have been interrupted and even though it states its complete the registry failed to update to confirm this so it continuously downloads

    1. Navigate to "WINDOWS\system32"

    2. Locate the .dll file called "shell32.dll"

    3. Right click and select properties, Hopefully the version of the file should match one below

    XP SP2 - Version 6.0.2900.3402
    XP SP3 - Version 6.0.2900.5622

    3. If it has the correct version, Copy and paste the following into a notepad

    Code:
    =============================================================================================================
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]
    "HonorAutoRunSetting"=dword:00000001

    =============================================================================================================

    4. Save it as "HonorAutoRun.reg" remembering to change file type to "All", To your desktop

    5. Once saved to the desktop, Right click and select "Merge", Select OK when prompted

    6. A pop up message should now appear stating that it has been added to the registry

    7. Download the new version of the update from Microsoft

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c7dbcde3-7814-47c5-849e-e64ecfb35d74&displaylang=en

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CC4FB38C-579B-40F7-89C4-1721D7B8DAA5&displaylang=en

    Once you restart your PC you should NOT see the update for download Massive Grin

    Regards

    Craig

    Hmmmm try create a new file and instead of adding the .reg at the end of the name just called it "HonorAutoRun" and for file type select "All"

    let the file recognize itself as a registry key, If it still fails

    1. Download the updates from the previous post

    2. Reboot the computer tapping "F8"

    3. Once the Boot Options screen appears select "Safe Mode"

    4. Once you have reached the desktop try and install the update from the desktop itself

    5. Once the installation is done restart the PC into normal mode and see if the update appears in the update section

    EDIT: Glad to hear it Smile

    I will leave this here for other users Smile

    Regards
